Hosting the Pirae Va'a Canoe Club
25th Annual Wahine O Ke Kai World Championship Women's Regatta

On Sunday, Sept. 21st our friends from Pirae, Tahiti arrived to prepare for the 25th Annual Wahine O Ke Kai World Championship Women's Regatta. Steerswoman and Coach Marie Rose Bohl first paddled in the channel in 1991 and will compete in her sixth Molokai-Oahu.

Jacques Pani (Marie Rose's husband) is her assistant coach and together, they have brought 11 of the most spirited women with beautiful singing voices here to experience our beautiful island. Members of the team are:

Women's Pirae Va'a Crew...

This year's Regatta took place Sunday, September 28,2003. Considered to be the World Championships of long-distance canoe paddling, 72 crews (the most canoes in the 25 year history of the Na Wahine O Ke Kai)consisting of women ages 18 years and older paddled outrigger canoes across the treacherous 41-mile Kaiwi Channel. The race kicked off at Hale O Lono Harbor on Molokai with the first finishers landing near the Hilton Hawaiian Village pier in Waikiki. The Na Wahine O Ke Kai website can found here.
