Molokai -May 15, 2005
WORLD CANOE & SKI CHAMPIONSHIP

A group of 10 men and a 15 year old young man arrived on Moloka'i Saturday morning and was picked up by Bruddah Roy and Bubba Horner. 0640am some of the Tahitians arrived. The group leader was from Papeete and the rest was from Huahine and one from Moorea. Their luggage did not all come in so we headed straight for Kalua Koi to locate their skis and canoes and check out the water conditions.

Back to the airport at 830am to meet the next arrival and picked up the missing bags and there were three more men from Huahine that arrived, namely Manutea, Maitai and Taravino.

We all then journeyed to the Horner Homestead for some good Hawaiian Breakfast. After that we went to Kaunakakai to check in at Uncle John Dudoit’s Dormitory to leave our bags and get ourselves organized.

We then went up to Quintua’s for lunch where we were able to sing some Tahitian songs for the family. Some decided to go back to Uncle John’s to rest while a group of us went back to find more of the canoes which were arriving on escort boats from Honolulu. Jean Luc's escort boat caught a 600 pound marlin outside of the Palaau Banks.

We had a wonderful time with these special friends from French Polynesian. Mahalo to Uncle John and Aunty Marion and Faithy for preparing the meals for these men!! Seven of the group of 11 participated in the race. They brought their own professional photographer, and equipment man, one of their sponsors and his son. A great opportunity for us to serve.
