Glenn & Mary Lou Austin Vacation on Molokai
January 2004

Glenn writes: We had the absolute best vacation of our lives! Thanks so much to Roy and Faith. The music, fantastic food and loving hospitality at Uncle Herb and Auntie Julia's place were the climax of an overall peak experience for us. I just loved playing the wash tub bass with them and the folks at the Hotel Molokai Jam.

The snorkeling was great – especially out at the reef edge and in the lava caverns and valleys off the point- all at Murphey’s Beach at mile marker 20 right across from where we stayed. Mary Lou adored the little sheltered lagoon and became an expert snorkler and got to know a number of fish communities over the days.

The hike down to Kalaupapa was awesome as was the view along the north coast from Father Damien’s grave site. Beach walks along the TREMENDOUS surf on the west coast made two days very special. The road up to Halawa valley was terrific. We had great weather except for arriving on the last day of a 13-inch continuous rain storm, a single day of thundering 30 foot surf, and a windstorm where Oahu clocked 92 mph winds!

Molokai is a very special place- getting to know the place and the people was a life altering experience.
